At a National Seminar organized by the Economic and Human Resource Development Association on the topic: "Outstanding Contribution for Social and Economic Growth" Chairman OIA Ambassador V B Soni was invited as a guest of honour. It was attended by some prominent dignitaries and 150 invited guests.Many among therewere presented with awards for their achievements and contributions on national progress in health, education and economic development.
In his keynote address Ambassador Soni referred to the recent 66th Anniversary celebration of India's independence. Heenumerated the rapid advancements made in various fields by the country since independence. The recent decline in the rate of growth has to be seen in the context of thedownturn in the world economic scenario. He urged that a lot more needs to be done to bring the poverty level down. Inclusive growth is the answer to the problem. He complimented those being honoured with award of excellence and exhorted them to be the role model in the areas where ever they are located and bring up leadership which is lacking.
In conclusion Ambassador Soni referred to the recent tragedyof Himalayan proportion by the destruction and loss of thousands of people by the floods that ravaged the area around Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. An appeal was made by him to all those who can contribute in resettlement programme of thosedevastated by the tragedy and pray for their soul. He led the gathering to observe silence for a minute in memory of those who perished by he desturuction.
