Overseas Infra Alliance (OIA) has been associated with FICCI's Asia Africa Agribusiness forum (AAAF) as its platinum sponsor. The AAAF event which was organized in New Delhi in early February 2014 saw the participation ofmore than 80 countries from Asia and Africa which included more than 12 ministers from the participating countires to discuss the prospects of taking agribusiness to the next level.
The 3 day forum saw the participation of more than 20 Indian companies showcasing their agricultural products and services in an exhibition along with key speakers from organizations such as Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, NABARD, EXIM Bank of India and few experienced agricultural and related fields ministers from different countries from Asia and Africa.
The forum was inaugurated by the President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee and the Agriculture and Food Processing Minister of India, Shri. Sharad Pawar was invited as the Chief Guest for the event. The later shared his insights on the current state of agribusiness in Asia and Africa at the keynote session of AAAF and stated that the great competitive advantage for Africa is its 733 million hectares of arable land, which accounts for 27.4% of the total arable land in the world. Currently, only 183 million hectares of land is under cultivation in Sub-Saharan Africa and approximately 452 million still remain uncultivated. On the other hand, agricultural land in Asia is under pressure from increasing population and urbanization which gives rise to opportunities for investment by Asian countries in the African region.
OIA as the lead exhibitor showcased its expertise in agribusiness by setting up an elaborate stall based on the theme of food security and gave brief information about its sugar projects which are completed and ongoing in Ethiopia and Sudan respectively.
The main show stealer at the stall was a scaled 3D model of Tendaho Sugar plant which has been completed by OIA and gave detailed information about the whole process of sugar production with a real touch and feel of the plant.
To promote OIA's strength in Agribusiness, sample sugar packets specially sourced from the Finchaa sugar plant were distributed among the visitors to the stall.
